Your role will be developing meaningful relationships with external partners and media, communicating the amazing stories hidden within Vigor, building strategies that connect our diverse locations and people in our common purpose and that unite us internally.

The Right Fit

We池e looking for a seasoned and creative thinker and a doer; a roll-up-your-sleeves change maker and collaborator to help us take our communications to the next level.

We need someone who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing and evolving environment with can-do approach; someone who knows how to navigate the challenges busy executives face while still getting the information they need to effectively communicate their vision; and someone with the media experience and savvy to drive public narratives.

We need someone who is committed and understands this is a job which may require travel, working evenings and weekends, and extended hours to accomplish assigned work. This position is on call 24/7 to provide assistance with any emergent situation to assist as needed in responding to media or other communication demands.


Preferred Education & Experience

A BA degree is preferred. Effective accomplishment of the job duties requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor痴 degree with major course work in public affairs, communications, journalism or a related field and a minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in public affairs or communication. Background in political communications is a plus.


Essential Knowledge

Knowledge of principles, methods and practices applied in design and implementation of public information, marketing and communications; methods and techniques of writing for a variety of purposes and diverse audiences; principles of business communications and employee engagement; correct English usages, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; research techniques including internet and database resources; current trends and methods in public information; intranet development methods and techniques; media markets, social media and sources of information.


Essential Skills

Ability to create a diverse and varied communication strategy; adapt key messages for consumption by multiple audiences; operate a computer and use various software applications such as word processing, presentations, spreadsheets; understand and translate the Company image and message to others; apply writing style and techniques appropriate for differing business and journalistic/public relations purposes; interact tactfully and effectively with other technical professionals, employees and the public; understand and interpret new and complex concepts and information applicable to assigned projects and responsibilities; communicate effectively in writing and in person with wide array of audiences from highest level executives to hourly craftspeople and with external audiences including media. Operate a motor vehicle and travel to/from various work locations.


Work Environment And Physical Demands

The physical demands for this position are moderate. Much of the work is performed in an office setting. The work also requires the ability to move throughout the shipyard and other heavy industrial facilities as the work may necessitate. This component of the work can be demanding and potentially hazardous due to the nature of the shipyard. Work involves a high activity level and pace, competing time demands, and interaction with others. Essential tasks require the use of keyboarding, phone and other office equipment usage, reading, writing, editing, and speaking.
