Vigor Alaska operates the Ketchikan Shipyard on behalf of the City of Ketchikan, the Ketchikan Gateway Borough the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority – and on behalf of our customers. We offer top-notch and expanding facilities in southern southeastern Alaska, in our state’s fifth largest city along the famed Inside Passage. Our experience, like the waters around us, runs deep.

POSITION SUMMARY:  To support production, our customers and our facilities electrically for fabrication and repair installations. Assist in vessel overhauls, craft and vessel support in set up, connection and tear down of temporary power. Incumbent may also assist in maintenance and repair of the facility electrically. (This position has a range of three associate levels of knowledge and experience)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Complies with all electrical standards (IEEE and NEC) safety and environmental policies and procedures
  2. Assists in job planning through the JHA (Job Hazard Analysis) process.
  3. Wire way installations
  4. Cable pulling
  5. Equipment mounting and cut in
  6. Basic terminations
  7. Welding experience preferred but not required.
  8. Proper use of electrical hand tools as well as pneumatic and electric trade specific tools.

ESSENTIAL SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Incumbent performs similar work in all areas of the Yard as the need arises.

JOB SCOPE:
The scope of this position includes but is not limited to working off of production releases at the department supervisor’s direction to carry out work items in accordance with specifications and working drawings, identifying and reporting anything that carries the work outside of that scope and communicating additional resources needed. This includes communicating progress, identifying hazards and maintaining an organized and safe work space.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
These are not supervisory roles. Each progressing associate level comes with increasing responsibilities such as the ability to work with less dependence on direct continuous supervision.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
The incumbent will receive direction directly from and report/communicate directly to the craft lead and or Level 1 supervisor.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND/OR KNOWLEDGE:
     1.      Understanding of OHM's law
     2.      Basic to advanced knowledge of AC and DC
     3.      Basic to advanced knowledge of power generation, control and distribution
     4.      Basic to advanced knowledge of transformer theory
     5.      Responsible for basic and increasing knowledge of drawings and line diagrams
     6.      Responsible for learning ABS and USCG regulations as it pertains to the daily tasks

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED preferred. Two years relevant work experience. Applicable training and/or education will be considered in lieu of work experience.
