POSITION SUMMARY:  The Configuration Manager identifies, analyzes, organizes and controls hardware configuration changes to the product design to determine the effects on the end product. In addition, the position is responsible for Integrated Logistical Support (ILS), providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) evaluations, and oversight for proper configuration flowdowns in purchasing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Analyze product design changes to determine effect on the end product.   
  • Determine and prepare proper documentation to capture changes in accordance with documented procedures.   
  • Review engineering change data and update configuration documentation appropriately.   
  • Analyze fabrication paperwork to create hardware configuration deliverables and support customer Quality/Configuration Audits.  
  • Manage configuration change processes to include change identification, documentation of change, change approval (internal and external), coordinate detailing of change incorporation, document approval (internal and external), and release of approved documents 
  • Perform regular audits of configuration documentation to ensure compliance with CM program and timely closure of changes 
  • Analyze data and provide trending for change metrics 
  • Mentor/train others in configuration and change management 
  • Leads and directs others in Change Management Process 
  • Coordinates with customers and vendors to determine a process for change reporting 
  • Represents company at customer change boards 
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish Configuration Management goals 
  • Works daily with representatives of Quality, Projects and Contracts to support contractual configuration responsibilities 

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Coordinates the compilation of existing documentation related to historical project execution (Lessons Learned, Non-Conformance Reports, and Redlines), Hardware Acceptance Reviews and Acceptance Data Packages, previous build paper, and contractual configuration documents, including all engineering and drawing packages.
  •  Provides feedback related to items required from and provided by the customer that relate to the current configuration.
  •  Provides input to the build paper revisions, including updates to format, critical dimensions, and updated work flow.
  •  Ensures that the Bill of Materials is accurately entered into the Procurement Database.
  •  Assist Discipline Managers with documentation related to all obsolescence and degradation issues related to the current design.
  •  Ensures documentation of configuration for a design developed through mockups, including checks and validations.
  •  Provides input for drawing revisions and customer engineering and design reviews, including participation in Material Review Board and Engineering Review Board meetings.
  •  Provide input during Physical Configuration Audits.
  •  Host and prepare documentation for Hardware Acceptance Reviews.
  •  Validates documentation of all new materials and equipment added as part of the non-recurring engineering effort.

JOB SCOPE:  This position works within general parameters however relies on extensive experience and judgement to accomplish goals.  A degree of creativity and latitude is part of the positionís scope of work. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The Configuration Manager is responsible for supervising a team of two to three Configuration/ILS individuals. 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:  Must have excellent communication skills to communicate with all levels of personnel and management, internally and externally.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  • Expert Microsoft Word and Excel skills are required
  • Multi-year demonstrated use of Primavera, Adobe, Access, ERP Software required
  • Experience reading/interpreting/creating drawings and bills of materials required
  • Must be organized and very detail oriented
  • Ability to read and interpret customer drawings and specifications to verify that vendor submittals meet specified requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Requires high school diploma or G.E.D, Associates Degree or Bachelorís degree is preferred but not required.
  • 10+ years of experience in Configuration Management
  • Manage Multi-disciplinary groups for 6+ years, typically managing between 3 and 8 people.
  • Candidate should have demonstrated background using concepts, practices and creating procedures associated with Hardware Configuration Management and/or MIL-STD- 973, ANSI/EIA-649

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

  • Professional CM Training required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity.  On occasions the incumbent may be required to lift up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
