POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the Vigor Works sales department, project management, and production. The role includes assisting sales in estimating jobs, assisting project management in setting up and running projects, and assisting production with build plans, fixture design, and heavy lifts.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the Sales, Marketing and Business Development Department in estimating jobs by compiling and providing historical data on past job performance.
  2. Participates in the sales process by attending bid review meetings, reviewing prints and specifications, providing comparative analysis of past job performance, and analyzing prospective work schedules against projected shop capacity.
  3. Review customer provided drawings for errors, omissions and manufacturability issues.
  4. Support production and project management with creating build plans for fabrication.
  5. Prepares calculations, drawings, and design concepts for build strategies, erection sequences, lifting plans, etc.
  6. Evaluates and develops engineering for fixtures and heavy lift plans.
  7. Confer with design engineering firms and other on staff to resolve design problems.
  8. Improves manufacturing efficiency by actively searching for opportunities to improve data quality, data delivery / presentation, and shop production practices.
  9. Other duties as assigned

 

JOB SCOPE: This position operates within general parameters, however exercises appropriate independent judgment in adjusting priorities, goals and work assignments, methods, procedures and techniques to successfully facilitate the project. Has the ability to influence and recommend modifying existing protocols.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: Must be able to discuss complex thoughts and timelines with engineers, project managers, production, sales, vendors, and customers. This position maintains a variety of professional relationships and must be able to determine the appropriate level of communication and interaction for various situations and circumstances. The ability to effectively influence decisions through respectful interactions with others both within the organization and outside of the organization is essential in this role.

  

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  •  Communication:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments and employee levels and outside vendors and customers.
    • Ability to present information, analysis, ideas, and positions in writing in a clear and convincing manner.
    • Ability to deliver presentations and participate substantively in discussions with various management levels within the organization.
    • Ability to problem solve and partner both internally with management and externally with customers to ensure satisfactory resolution of issues.
  •  Technical:
    • Strong computer skills required, including MS Office software, engineering software (analysis, design, CAD and data programs). Advanced skill in Excel required. Skill in 3D CAD modeling software required (SolidWorks experience preferred).
    • Ability to read and comprehend work specifications, work orders, blueprints, contracts and technical publications.
  •  Personal:
    • Strategic thinking skills; strong analytical skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
    • Must be well-organized, detail and customer (internal and external) oriented, a self-starter.
    • Ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively and respond well to last minute, high priority, time sensitive projects.
    • Must be comfortable discussing plans and design details before design is complete. Must be able to discuss concepts before all facts are available.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

BA degree in engineering is required (mechanical engineering is preferred).

One (1) to five (5) years of engineering experience in a production/manufacturing environment is preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: None required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production. The individual will be required to be in production areas. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders.   The incumbent may be required to lift up to 20 pounds. He/she may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 10% of the time with notice.
