POSITION SUMMARY:
This is long-term contract position with potential for hire. The focus of this role is to provide desktop technology support across company via the phone and at customers’ desks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

(This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities)

  1. Collect information from users about problem and lead user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of problem.
  2. Provide Windows desktop support in-person and using remote control access for all company locations.
  3. Assist in the maintenance and administration of user workstations, laptops, printers, network equipment and wireless devices.
  4. Support Microsoft Office applications and other customer applications, including AutoCAD.
  5. Do iPhone, Blackberry and other PDA setup and troubleshooting.
  6. Document work done in Help Desk tickets from initial request through request completion.
  7. Coordinate user problem resolution with other IT department staff as necessary.
  8. Develop and maintain system documentation regarding physical topology, equipment, environment and/or software. 
  9. Moving desktop computing hardware. 
  10. Create Knowledge Base articles to answer Frequently Asked Questions and to document technical solutions. 
  11. Other duties as assigned.  

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintain software and hardware inventories.

JOB SCOPE
This position works within established parameters to provide support to customers across the Company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:   None

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:   
The interactions are daily written and verbal interaction with employees at all levels of the company to respond to Help Desk requests. Also, the individual has weekly or monthly interaction with suppliers and consulting partners to support projects and other Help Desk requests.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  •  Understanding of DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory as it relates to user desktop issues and troubleshooting.
  •  Understanding of TCP/IP networking protocol to do preliminary network troubleshooting.
  •  Solid working knowledge of the MS Office suite of products.
  •  Understanding of antivirus applications.
  •  Ability to support desktop applications.
  •  Ability to build and re-image client hardware.
  •  Ability to manage technical support requests from multiple company locations required.
  •  Ability to adhere and enforce documented processes and procedures, ability and patience to teach others effectively.
  •  Excellent organization and time management skills.
  •  Ability to prioritize Help Desk calls in their queues, be able to balance competing priorities, effectively work on the calls in their queue, and escalate calls as necessary.
  •  Must have excellent customer service skills.
  •  Must understand the difference between working "the problem," not "the person," and maintaining a calm / non-alarmist demeanor when troubleshooting.
  •  Excellent listening and communication skills, with the ability to listen-first, respond-second approach to Help Desk support and convey the details and progress of the computer issue to the user in a timely manner.  

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Prefer two (2) year of associate degree in Computer Information Systems or similar degree program.

2+ years experience in desktop support role. Experience working in a multi-platform environment with Windows as primary platform.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
A+, Network+, Microsoft certifications, and ITIL certification preferred, but not required.  

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 
Must have an active drivers license and access to a functioning vehicle.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. May be required to be in production areas in yard. Must be able to walk to and from job sites. Must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways. May be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. Bending, twisting and crouching may be required when installing networking hardware. Must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl and twist. Good finger, hand and wrist dexterity required for extensive computer operations. Must have good hand-eye coordination. Extended time sitting in front of a computer terminal. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds. Local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
