Vigor Alaska operates the Ketchikan Shipyard on behalf of the City of Ketchikan, the Ketchikan Gateway Borough the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority – and on behalf of our customers.
We offer top-notch and expanding facilities in southern southeastern Alaska, in our state’s fifth largest city along the famed Inside Passage. Our experience, like the waters around us, runs deep.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.  Successfully performs work as an individual, as a member of a single craft, or a multi-craft work crew.  Performs work with minimal supervision.  

1.    Performs cleaning and maintaining areas of fabrication work space and facilities to ensure a clean and safe working environment
2.    Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental procedures.
3.    Works in enclosed and confined spaces.
4.    Installs and maintains weather protections.
5.    Safely uses basic hand and power tools. 
6.    Erects scaffolding in compliance within shipyard and OSHA guidelines.
7.    Pressure washes and scrapes ship hulls as needed.
8.

ESSENTIAL SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Incumbent performs various tasks as needed such as fire watch and helping other crafts as needed.

JOB SCOPE: 
This position is a service labor position and reports directly to the services lean and/or craft manager. Work scope  is assigned by the project management team.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
Incumbent will interact with various levels of all crafts in assisting with the cleanup and maintenance of working spaces. All direction of work will be coordinated through the Services department lead and Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND/OR KNOWLEDGE

1.    Communicates effectively.
2.    Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide and multiply.
3.    Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
4.    Strong spatial awareness
4.    Recognize and resolve unsafe working conditions.
5.    Construction experience preferred.


ESSENTIAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED preferred. 3 years relevant work experience. Proven skills, work history and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience.

ESSENTIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
1.    Works indoors: Frequently – May be exposed to petroleum and petroleum by-products as well as grease, paint, fumes, dust, vibration, asbestos, free-silica, welding flash and noise.

3.    Operation of equipment/tools/vehicles:  Uses forklift, high-pressure hose/gun, fire extinguisher, power/hand tools, air tools, mop, shovel, broom, come-a-long, chain fall, needle gun, pumps, discharge hoses, utility knife, and rope/synthetic line, etc.
4.  Required hygiene standards:  Per company standards.
