POSITION SUMMARY:  

Project Engineers play a key role in supporting the Project Manager though all project phases from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring & controlling, and closure. 

Project Engineers report to the Project Manager for the Projects they are assigned to.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

PE-Lead: In some cases PE’s will be in supervisory capacity over other groups of people. They will be responsible for coaching/guiding these employees, for the performance of their work, and for their annual and intermediate performance reviews.

 

Unless in the Lead capacity, Project Engineer Levels 1-3 do not have direct supervisory responsibilities. They are to utilize allocated project resources to execute the project scope but are not responsible for coaching or evaluations of these individuals, though they may be asked to provide performance input related to their projects.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key requirements and duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  •  PE is responsible for meeting the project contract requirements within a defined quality program. The PE will operate in accordance with VIGOR’s Nuclear PM Guideline, and participate heavily in:
    • Detailing/Design Planning
    • Fabrication Planning
    • Execution and control of:
      • Translation of contract requirements into VIGOR working documents, such as;
        •  Production control & procedures
        •  Purchase orders,
        •  Receiving instructions,
        •  Supplier management
      • Shop issue resolutions
      • EVMS Reporting
  •  PE supports the Project Manager in monitoring and controlling performance and collaborating in making course corrections where necessary to meet project schedule, cost, quality, safety and corporate goals

 

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATION:

  •  Engineering Degree with focus in industrial or mechanical disciplines or similar experience in steel fabrication projects for the nuclear or aerospace industries

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

PE-1: entry level; typically less than 3 years’ experience in this role. Requires substantial oversight, guidance, and verification of outputs in fulfilling the roles responsibilities.

 

PE-2: competent level; typically 3-7 years’ experience; Able to fulfill the responsibilities of the role with little oversight or guidance. Understands the fundamentals behind the methods/procedures, able to make decisions that are in line with these principles on their own.

 

PE-3: mastery level; typically 7+ years’ experience; fully competent in responsibility of the role, also part of architecture of the means/methods/processes NPD uses to do business with regard to this role. An active participant in continuous improvement efforts that further the company values, consistency, and efficiency of people and processes within the division.

 

Skills required for all PE Levels:

  •  Similar experience, preferably in Nuclear or Aerospace industries.
  •  Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  •  Experience in a fabrication environment, preferably job-shop or general contract companies
    • Strong fabrication background/builder-mentality
    • Strong technical skills/aptitude
    •  Excellent communication skills for use across the spectrum from craftsmen to management
      • Constant interaction with shop production is expected

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting. The person may be required to be in production areas at times. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. There may be local travel up to 10% of the time and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice.
