Vigo Shipyard VSI - SUPERVISOR

This job will be posted until filled or closed at ninety (90) days.

Specialty Finishes is QP-1 certified by the Society for Protective Coatings (known as SSPC) for field applications to complex industrial and marine structures such as ships, bridges, off-shore drilling platforms, storage tanks, waste water treatment facilities, and more.  

In addition, Specialty Finishes is the only Oregon company which is also QP-3 certified for permanent shop coating operations.  We are currently looking for Production Supervisors for our Coatings Division and our Decking Division.

Job Purpose and Summary:  
This position supervises the daily planning and implementation of projects. The position focuses on meeting deadlines at or below budget.  The work involves selecting, training, disciplining employees and assuring work is appropriately assigned, equipment and materials secured and all safety regulations met. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 Management, Safety and Quality
 Ensuring employees adhere to safety rules and regulations. 

 Assigns tasks to team members; assures tasks are accomplished within standards  
 Provides correction and redirection when performance dictates

 Secure Equipment, Tools and Materials

Education/Experience:
 High School Diploma/GED or 10th grade education 
 Minimum of 2 years of experience leading the work of others 
 Forklift experience is a plus but not required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 Knowledge of safety rules and regulations  
 Ability to create Manning plans 
 Knowledge of QA and QC practices, including inspection 
 Ability to instruct and train others 
 Familiar with Basic Electric and Pneumatic Tools 
 Practice working smart, careful, productive, flexible and considerate 

 Self-motivational and problem solving skills are a plus 
 Show willingness and ability to learn and move forward
 Communicate effectively and work effectively in a diverse work force 

Specific to Decking Division:

 Experience Supervising installation of Soft Floor, Terrazzo, Underlayment   

Specific to Coating Division:
 Experience Supervising application of Industrial Paint/Coatings

and/or

 Experience Supervising Industrial Blasting

Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. Must be able to push and pull up to 75 lbs. Require ability to stand and or walk on hard uneven surfaces for extensive periods of time. At times work is performed in tight spaces in adverse temperatures. Must be able to handle working on multiple levels of a vessel requiring up and down ladder wells throughout the work days.
