Helper- Day Shift

Department: Laborer
Location: Vancouver, WA

SUMMARY 
Performs shop helper duties throughout the shop as directed. Performs manual labor tasks in sweeping and cleaning inside and outside shop areas. Assists welders and mechanics in finishing work, i.e. grinding, polishing, etc. Receives on-the-job training in the development of more specialized fabrication skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 

  • Responsible for stocking consumables in Conexus with weld wire, paint, fluxes, ect
  • Performs shop helper duties throughout the shop as directed. Current daily task is to sign off and validate equipment checking to ensure the equipment is safe or if it is in need of service.
  • Performs manual labor tasks in sweeping and cleaning inside and outside shop areas. 
  • Assists welders and mechanics in finishing work, i.e. grinding, polishing, etc. 
  • Receives on-the-job training in the development of more specialized fabrication skills.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Some knowledge of, or ability to familiarize self with, the fabrication plant and equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English regarding the daily functions of the plant, safety rules and regulations, and possible hazardous conditions.
  • General mathematical skills for counting, etc.
  • Basic skills in the use of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Ability to develop more specialized skills in such areas as welding, blueprint readings, machine operation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or maneuver objects, difficult objects will be lifted with the assistance of mechanical means or additional manpower.  60 Lbs. minimum lifting requirement.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb.
  • May be exposed to excessive noise, welding gases and fumes, and varying weather conditions.  Proper protective equipment will be provided as necessary.
