Functions and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for leading project based job results:

  • Advocates safety as number one priority on the jobsite and enforces compliance with company and jobsite safety plan and policies
  • Enforces all safety-related regulations
  • Partners with Estimating, Division Management and Project Management to supervise, direct, and coordinate management of coatings projects, including direct liaison with owner, designers, and subcontractors to ensure efficient and orderly performance of the job
  • Develops and implements detailed schedules, production plans, budget, scorecards and safety goals in mind
  • Assists Quality team in developing, reviewing and commenting on the Paint Quality Work Plan (PQWP) for each coatings project.
  • Assists Project Manager in the preparation of project status reports
  • Responsible for daily reports, progress reports, compliance reports and logs
  • Oversees the review of plans and paint drawings in accordance with contract documents and the coordination of shop drawings
  • Procures tools, materials and equipment needed for the project to ensure availability according to the work schedule
  • Determines staffing levels and timing considering building methodology as well as the availability of tools and equipment for each phase of the coatings project
  • Recruits, hires and directs the work of all company onsite field and shop personnel in accordance with HR processes and procedures
  • Prepares or oversees submission of payroll to Payroll Department and all documentation required to comply with HR and Payroll policies and procedures
  • Oversees training requirements for blasters and painters. SSPC C7/C12/C14.
  • Management and Maintain AISC Sophisticated paint endorsement and SSPC QP-1 and QP-3 Certifications
  • Work in conjunction with our Quality team to perform audits of our Quality Management Systems.
  • Evaluation/Development/Progression of skillsets for individual employees (mentoring) to be proficient in area of expertise.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel and employees (with appropriate assistance from HR and Legal) to resolve complaints and grievances within the work force
  • Works with supervisory personnel and employees, engineers, architects, subcontractors, inspectors, third party representatives, customers, coatings representatives and suppliers of tools and materials to improve construction methods and resolve construction issues
  • Ability to source, size, and position coatings equipment to support individual coatings projects
  • Able to forecast Capital Equipment needs to supplement existing to meet project coatings schedules
  • Ensures construction schedules are adhered to by determining appropriate staffing levels and material and tool procurement.   Coordinates with scheduling dept. weekly.
  • Supervises and coordinates subcontractors to monitor their compliance with subcontract terms and quality milestones for release of payments.
  • Follows and enforces company policies and procedures
  • Coordinates and oversees regulatory inspection

This person will interface, and take direction from the VIS General Manager to generate executable plans for Project and Production Superintendents. This person will assist the superintendents and supervisors in mitigating any variances on scheduled projects and technical challenges. They are expected to maintain a daily progress plan. Required to learn and perform functions of a Project Manager on smaller projects. The Production Manager is a member of the management team responsible for all production activities within their area of operations. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Act and operate in a 'safety first' manner
  • Experience in creating coatings sequencing plans to achieve maximum efficiency of labor.
  • Communication Skills - Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization and to Senior Mangement Team.
  • Must have expert knowledge of industry standards, processes, and techniques regarding all aspects of complex coatings application including metalizing.
  • Computer Skills - Competent and knowledgeable computer skills. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • 5-8 Direct Reports (Superintendents & Supervisors)
  • 40-100 craft employees in various skills.  Laborers, Blasters, Painters, Installers

Education & Experience

  • Associates Degree, or related work experience
  • Minimum 5 years as a Superintendent
  • 7-10 years of Industrial Complex Coatings application.
  • Must have expert knowledge of industry standards, processes, and techniques regarding all aspects of Complex Coatings Systems. 
  • Coatings Inspection certifications NACE or SSPC 
  • Ability to diagnose coating failures/defects and ability to correct/instruct/direct on how to avoid. 
  • Computer Skills - Competent and knowledgeable computer skills. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Programs. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format. 
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints. 

Physical Requirements

  • Works significant portion of day outside
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and work at heights
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather (including exposure to extremes of hot and cold) and in all kinds of work environments
  • Able to lift/move up to 70 pounds
  • Able to stand; crawl; climb ladders & stairs; balance; stoop and kneel; etc (physical activities associated with complex coatings sites)
  • Must be able to withstand for long periods of time noise, fumes, airborne particles, etc. associated with complex coatings application.
  • Must have ability to be fit, proper use of a respirator and other PPE required for complex coatings application.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
